I applied my skills in a professional setting, by developing visual content in Canva to support the social media presence for the Indian Society of Calgary. This included designing Instagram stories, posters, and infographics for promoting Indian festivities, product advertisements, and article digests. The focus was to create graphics that were visually appealing, yet informative, ensuring it aligned with the desired goals, and effectively communicated the intended messaging to the audience. From this role, I strengthened my design skills and gained hands-on experience creating content for a real-world social media strategy.
ReWire is a productivity-focused club, looking to improve the productivity of students, including myself. As Operations Associate, I would be overlooking the regular functioning of the club's many aspects. This has included coordinating tabling schedules, event logistics such as room bookings, and more. I also have tried to keep clear organization across the setup, whether it's the team Google Drive, or the Discord server. Through the role, I've got better at clearly communicating to team members exactly what I need from them or want them to do. It also has helped me gage what is the right balance of time allocation, as I navigate studies as well. This is a club which I genuinely am passionate about! I am also actively involved in the actual planning of events, as well as remaining an active contributor to plans to grow exposure for the club.
In this one-off opportunity, I represented the Computer Security program for Fall Campus Day. I spoke to perspective students and families about what the program has to offer, how it differs to Computer Science as well as the Engineering programs. I also addressed questions and concerns regarding many things, in addition to sharing anecdotes from my personal experience as a (commuting) student. It was very useful from a networking point of view as well, meeting many new people. I enjoyed myself loads, with a hope to return for the 2026 edition as well.
This was my first ever hackathon experience, and it was an insightful one. I was paired with 3 senior & experienced tech professionals, who guided me along the process. We were tasked to create a DevOps solution with the use of generative AI tools. The creation by us was Code Rush, a tool that would analyze a GitHub repository, and provide the main details such as owner, contributors, tech stack, purpose, and more. My responsibilty was to create the API. It was mostly agentic. We didn't win anything, but the experience far exceeded the need of a prize.
Participating in this hackathon was an immensely rewarding experience. I collaborated with 3 peers on AidFlow, a smart food and supply dispatching system. The goal was to create a system that distributes resources based on needs, factoring in many variables. I was one of the two collaborators on the frontend, building dynamic components to display information. This was a challenging experience, with technology implementation having immense confusion, further leading to issues in frontend and backend connection.
